Update and HDD question

hi - have 2 questions

- first, has 10.9.5 update brought problem anyone? i'm not using external monitors that's not concern, else?

- second, i'm considering partitioning hdd both tm backups , storage. found article http://www.macworld.com/article/2090021/delete-mac-partitions-without-losing-data.html deleting second partition without losing data. still viable today's mac? , in case, can delete second partition or able resize it?
 

10.9.5 bug fixes , security updates, if you're on earlier version of mavericks there isn't reason not update.

yes, long partition scheme guid, deleting , resizing partitions possible through disk utility.

iPhone shuts down randomly, rst vdd_under
