Partitioning EHDD

i new macs. have older imac 2008 2.4ghz 4gb osx mavericks. use wd passport ultra 2tb time capsule. wish had partitioned it. put files complete national geographic in partition. me 2tb way more room need time capsule. plan copy backups onto drive, partition , transfer them on newly partitioned drive. install files complete national geographic on partition.

suggestions?
 

i don't see problems that.

leave enough room on "backup partition" accomodate "future expansion"...

iPhone shuts down randomly, rst vdd_under
