Dell P2715Q - 4k rez for Late 2012 iMac, MST = Secondary

originally posted in dell thread, wanted out folks opinions.

had interesting discovery today messing around mst setting on p2715q. neither of computers officially support 4k resolutions (late 2012 imac 3.4, 680mx, , dell e6430 laptop work issued).

dell laptop sits in dock dp, dvi , vga out. hoping use dp out dell monitor older dell dp in. nothing happened when set mst primary, flipped on secondary setting , got image on dell 27" monitor. surprise, full 3840x2160 (monitor claimed 60hz, pretty choppy). still, didn't think intel gpu 4k (without mst can select 2560x1440 max).

hooked imac , set mst secondary , bam, 4k! again, monitor claims 60hz, system information shows 30hz.

missing mst here? magic button older macs want 4k (albeit crippled)? doesn't make sense me @ all.

edit: dell monitor reporting 30hz, not 60hz. stupidly looking @ max settings, not actual. additionally, hooked wife's macbook air w/ hd3000. not 4k mst set secondary, hidpi 1080p (no option 2560x1440). when turned off mst entirely, 2560x1440.

strange, yet cool. hidpi options looks really, good. scaling on imac looks great. though, seems dp port provides better image mdp port. both support mst setting (or both offer 4k when set mst secondary), there ghosting around text on mdp. don't recall dp port having , instead looks damn crisp.

bumping own thread.

able explain fndings? or confirm same results?
