The "Mac Mini" Enough for My Needs?

hello name clara , thank taking time read thread. current mac mini think have had since 2007-8 has stopped working.

elder brother wizz computers took apart , able salvage data. have lost few hours of work due time machine him nothing lost. tested parts nothing worked.

find myself needing new computer , i've used apple computers life. need apple computer in opinion.

come affluent family , i've had bought me. turning 17 year parents feel have job should pay own computer. have if in shoes feel same way dreams of 5k imac seem distant now.

perhaps alone in saying liked mac mini though shows age prematurely compared apple's other offerings. quite content buy one. bugbear current gen mac mini's dual-core correct? i'm sure last mac mini dual-core "core 2 duo" , @ bought 7 years ago...

i'm not sure can stretch imac @ moment. parents buy me "the laptop of choice" , monitor when go uni. that's still few years away don't want buy macbook i'll better 1 then.

bar usual word-processing , social media stuff calculator can these days these needs:


  • dbpoweramp

dbpoweramp has os x beta , can start ripping music in os x instead of on pc. i'm not sure if familiar it's amazing cd ripping tool uses "accuraterip".

comes batch-ripper, cd-writer , music converter. think if not i'm not sure cd burner make use of multiple threads wrong...

have external blu-ray drive , 100 disc cd/dvd/blu-ray autoloader fyi. :)

  • photoshop & lightroom (on occasion final cut pro)

use photoshop , lightroom school , pleasure. don't have latest (last retail version) , not buying subscription until reach uni.

last mac mini struggled , i'm not sure if current ones better input. know lot of suggest imac reason i'd rather not form factor of mimi.

  • handbrake & dvdfab mac

purely enjoyment here rip blu-rays mac mini's nas (ipad friendly format). again takes forever , can see imac being big improvement on mac mini stock gap i'd rather spend other £1000 cost me buy imac on clothes or cds etc.

main use mac mini listening music via itunes , spotify , using facebook when not in photoshop think live slower mac 2 years. if had imac wait see say.

if made far saint , applaud persistence; reading. ;)

sounds mini great you. handbrake rips happen faster on more powerful imac? sure. we're not talking life changing savings here. happy new mini , forward macbook college.
