Resolved *SOLVED!* Unable to boot after failed 10.10.2 update

hey all,

have 2008 24" 2.8ghz imac 120gb intel 320 ssd , 6gb ram installed myself. performed clean install of yosemite 10.10.0, , 10.10.1 update, there no issues, , machine ran fine. however, when attempted update mac 10.10.2, ran serious problem.

many yosemite users, difficult download update mac app store update tab when first released. download occurring @ slow rate taking on 2 hours . wasn't using imac else during time.

@ point during process family member accidentally unplugged router. went mac check on it, , although update halfway downloaded according app store, computer automatically restarted apply update before stop it.

saw update progress bar , update seemed install without problems. however, when mac went reboot, greeted prohibitory symbol. tried restarting several times without success. tried boot safe mode , single user mode, , neither worked. reset smc , zapped pram, didn't help. booted recovery partition on drive , ran disk utility's repair disk on both partition disk itself, , ran permissions repair. didn't work.

hooked imac friend's mbp via firewire target disk mode, , installed 10.10.2 standalone update imac, didn't work. going attempt 10.10.2 combo update, read wasn't working 10.10.1 systems, , worked 10.10.0 installs. have copy of disk warrior 4.4 cd, , booted on imac , rebuilt disk directory, no luck. :(

fortunately, have time machine backup on external hdd. don't exclude tm backups, includes system folder os x, attempted restore backup using recovery partition. have backups before install began. first tried earlier in day before install began, , when didn't fix tried restore backup few days ago, didn't work either!

finally, forced in-place reinstall of yosemite recovery partition. reinstall worked, , able boot desktop. unfortunately, have missing files, 2 months worth of quicken data entry , part of documents folder. know backed via tm, i'm not sure why items missing. also, chameleon ssd optimizer app won't open, , appears corrupted.

i'm trying understand happened, , if there method have taken mac working again, other laundry list of things tried. since had imac backed (including system files) tm before tried download , install botched update, should have tried format os x partition recovery partition, , run tm restore have replaced corrupted system files working backup copy, rather perform in-place reinstall of yosemite? still files back?

thing don't understand why mac ran update after lost internet connection in middle of update, wasn't finished downloading. shouldn't system have checked update ensure entire bundle downloaded before executing install process?
