Running Windows on Mac

there 2-3 programs use daily not mac compatible. understanding, there way run windows programs on mac partitioning hard drive. can walk me step step on how please. also, how transfer files , forth windows section mac section? advice.
 

i use virtualbox windows on mac

prefer not wasting precious disk space creating bootcamp partition, downloaded virtualbox free virtualbox.org , installed it. installed windows virtual machine. lets me run windows in window on os/x if mac program. installed virtualbox guest additions, can resize windows desktop window , copy/paste clipboard between mac & windows. mapped drive between windows & mac, can share files between two. used "net use m: \\vboxsrvr\downloads" make windows m: drive see mac downloads directory. can specify how many computer resources allow virtualbox use, , adjust them later. know many folks pay parallels, use windows infrequently, prefer free option.

bootcamp has many limitations , disadvantages needs, such as: requiring reboot use unless using parallels special configuration, windows files not included in time machine backups, no simple backup options, resizing of bootcamp partition not allowed without reinstallation unless using winclone (which purchased), not simple share files between windows , mac, no integration mac desktop or apps, etc.

such, bootcamp not best option people. luck virtualbox installation (or parallels purchase). have been happy using virtualbox several years on several machines , operating systems.
