hi, have appointment @ apple store on friday (which i've waited stupidly long for!) regarding mbp - looking advice before go.
opened mbp , came on it's sleep, cursor wouldn't move. wouldn't respond commands, held down power force shut down.
when powered up, got dreaded grey screen + folder "?" symbol inside it.
phoned apple care, tried hard disk recovery didn't work. tried internet recovery, , didn't work either. can't recognise hard drive. i've been told turn out simple cable connecting start-up disk being faulty/knocked out of place, or unfortunate hard drive packing in (which mean i've lost awful lot of stuff).
in worst case scenario hard drive knackered - how looking @ repair? , i'll able retrieve data hard drive? if so, idea of cost/best place go this? (i've heard apple store don't offer service).
what model mac? there couple of years have been known have hdd cables go bad , behave bad hdd. make sure check before doing else. if check cable first , turns out it's bad, haven't spent lot of money on drive wasn't solution , you'll mac (except functional now).
cable , labor, wouldn't spend more $50 or $60 cable easy replace if have experience screwdriver , take time careful.
