Advice for External drive setup with new 5K iMac

ordered new 5k imac , want rebuild new workflow around it.
(i7 cpu 256 ssd) - couldn't getting larger internal drive had keep cost of single machine under limit tax reasons.

general computing plus getting photography aperture (for now) , raw files, might switch lightroom. thinking want fast external drive. i'm guessing 1tb directly connected new 5k imac. looking advice on selecting 1 of those.

have 1 tb of other data i'd able access @ time on imac, high speed not needed.

have 2 airs want have backed time machine regularly.

want have automated backup process 3 machines - guessing time machine. fast external drive hold precious photos - want non-time machine, direct copy backup of that.

use older airport express (n) - thinking new time capsule 3tb central bu device , speedier (ac) wifi router.

before - can recommend better way. budget not tight - don't want on spend beyond job well. quiet , reliable important. not thinking of cloud backup use apple's future icloud backup of photos.

in advance.

(finally - live overseas, , thinking of buying owc appear ship - not limited them)

fast expensive drive......1tb ssd on thunderbolt (more expensive ssd raid 0 array)
not expensive....raid 0 drive array on tb1 or 2 (build 6tb drives)

in either case, don't forget separate backup drives time machine or ccc.


have lacie 2big 6tb raid 0) via tb1 , chained behind lacie d2 6tb tm backups. warranty on over 2big in august, replace 2 3tb drives 2 6tb drives , run array raid 1)
