Apple Removes Intego's 'VirusBarrier' From iOS App Store, Says It's Misleading

apple appears cracking down on "anti-virus" apps in ios app store, in effort prevent customers believing ios devices capable of contracting viruses , malware. intego, company produces anti-virus software mac , ios, had virusbarrier ios app pulled app store.

virusbarrier app designed scan external files stored in cloud or attached emails, detect viruses might sent on vulnerable devices.

intego ceo jeff erwin announced removal of app ios app store yesterday, , pointed towards larger culling of anti-virus apps available on apple's platform. macrumors spoke erwin afternoon shed light on why apple opted remove virusbarrier after 4 , half years in app store.

according erwin, when apple notified intego of virusbarrier's removal app store, company told him app's app store description "misleading" , potentially cause customers believe there viruses on ios.

intego filed appeal , rewrote app store description "obnoxiously" clear wording, , that's when company learned wider crackdown on anti-virus apps. not clear when apple began removing anti-virus apps or how many have been pulled app store, search "anti-virus" today brings games, privacy apps, , apps finding lost phones. there still couple of apps advertise virus-detecting capabilities virusdetector, few remaining apps may removed app store in near future.
