New MacBook for video conferencing, any good with 480p cam?

i want new macbook size , portability, , using video conferencing, facetime, skype , google hangouts. i'm curious how quality of built-in 480p cam? bad i'm hearing. know has used one.

got new macbook in mail couple days ago. last night skyped friend test out quality of webcam. directly comparing 480p webcam on new macbook 720p logitech webcam use macmini.

seems webcam fine when comes casual video conferencing. of critics underestimating quality of webcam because of it's lower resolution (generally seen abysmal 2015 piece of technology). however, light exposure, coloring , frame rate seem match 720p "facetime hd" cameras apple has in other products. difference might notice small dip in finer detail, , that's solely based on lower resolution factor. apple appears squeezing best image out of camera can get. remember issue because panel of macbook display thin cannot house facetime hd camera @ point.

in personal opinion, webcam in new macbook looks way better thought would. friend on skype said same, , noted how couldn't tell of difference on skype. should mention sound quality doesn't seem issue either, , noise cancellation works great. before purchasing, quality of webcam 1 of 2 of main concerns machine, other being performance. luckily, both of these have turned out negotiable based on harsh testing of new macbooks in apple store , experience far machine.

mentioned in post you're looking use new macbook mostly video conferencing. have note affect battery life , performance. depend lot on service using. i'd safe assume facetime best option when comes siphoning battery , performance, , microsoft's skype , google hangouts going have worse results , affects on system.

before began skyping friend, had unplugged macbook , charged. battery icon on task bar gives estimates on remaining battery life depending on current usage. before skype session, remaining battery estimates 9 or hours. few minutes skype call, , estimation dropped under 5 hours remaining. during skype call attempted multitask in other apps, of them running full-screen. swiping between desktops , whatnot. possible, did notice tiny bit of hit on performance, nothing big. however, did experience hitch in image quality in call while doing this, has more connection issues either end of line.

tl;dr: new macbook's webcam pretty good, keep in mind video conferencing halve battery life , performance might drop little depending on how have going on. wouldn't recommend video conferencing on machine all time, can absolutely when need to. computer handles of fine.
