How Do You Decide If You Need a Mac Pro?

don't shoot if sounds newbie question.

have had 3 macs on past ten years. had 15" macbook pro (2008 model), 11" macbook air (2013 model), , retina macbook pro (2013 model 16 gb ram, 512 gb ssd, intel i7). have had handful of pc laptops, aren't worth mentioning except tank of asus bought $500 , reason keeps going strong. other ones lasted 4 or 5 months , went straight down drain.

i'm mac person, , want powerful home work station. work in international development , lot of video , photo editing, creative design, , multitasking. know don't "need" super powerful machine. working on retina macbook pro isn't practical working big immersive screen lot of power behind it. game on - call of duty, kind of thing.

questions is: imac or mac pro? love 5k retina imac have heard lot overheating problems. never know going have use thing. work in ghana, ethiopia, south sudan, based in portland, or. heat major factor - has been macbook pro in past (it gets 108 degrees on average in south sudan). ideally in united states now, because have kids need go schools (which there aren't in south sudan, unless have $50,000 year spare).

biggest question of these 2 options durable , sustainable? worry all-in-one nature of imac. is, being hard tinker , fix. mac pro @ least has option of swapping monitors, replacing memory, etc.

there price. mac pro plus monitor a huge price play. better go imac , swap out when dies? or better go mac pro?
thoughts?

there personal view of comps.

dont design of imac, @ all. never liked engineering idea of it, however, looks quite nice these days.

mac pro different story. me epitomy of thinking long time getting myself couldnt find this.

compact, fast, power efficient, cool(thermals ;)) , silent design. im still waiting next gen decide or go last gen route or new gen buy, needs, are:

photo video editing, , gaming. , yes, im willing pay premium price tag thermals , silence.
