new user, hope correct forum

since installing os x 10.10.3 time ago, decided it’s time try new icloud photos library. however, when open photos, preferences , choose icloud photos library, tells me mac has 58gb of photos & video , therefore need 200gb of storage.

have 2900 photos & around 30 small video clips. find hard believe since friend requires 20gb of storage , has 18000 photos!

using finder, have looked @ username/photos folder. in addition large number of .jpg files, shows 58gb iphoto folder , 52gb photos library.photoslibrary folder.

appreciate if explain why have such huge folders in photos & iphotos library.
