WhatsApp Issue

long story short, dropped phone in water , borrowing iphone friend.

whatsapp chats weren't set , last 6 months ago.

i'm having issue it's showing 'connecting' status , when trying manual backup, shows 'please wait' i've left hour isn't going anywhere.

i've got many important conversations , pictures on there , don't wish lose them.

i've considered deleting app , re downloading surely lose everything?

fyi, other apps using internet , working fine.

can help?
