TextEdit and Tables?

is there way export table in textedit out excel? i've tried copying , pasting doesn't seem retain formatting. gets condensed 1 row. haven't been able find way export table csv file either. there trick making happen?

don't create tables in textedit. happens emails others have copy , pasted table of sorts within body of email , way retain formatting (to make changes or additions) copy textedit (rtf). nothing textedit retain formatting. not ms excel.

tips or tricks appreciated.

csv files text files, , don't contain formatting data - have txt extension switched csv denote purpose. if dumped table text file , renamed extension, odds excel able import result - off-the-top-of-my-head guess you'd need tell treat file tab-delimited, opposed comma-delimited.

using default software comes os x, haven't found simple way save vanilla text files (as opposed rtfs , on). know copying text sticky , exporting trick.
