Haven't owned a Mac in a while, need some purchase advice

hello,

owned first gen unibody macbook pro (15") 2008. used audio recording , games etc.

looking new mac recording unsure if new macbook can handle it. mixer firewire 800 device, think can purchase adapter for. track external drive , record 2 tracks @ once in garage band - nothing crazy. have powerful desktop can don't feel learning new software , have lots of old garageband projects want revive. additionally want develop ios app or two.

leaning towards macbook air because has better processor screen terrible , 4 gigs of ram not cut me. osx seems have gotten more system intensive since snow leopard, last version used.

new macbook powerful enough needs? should save bucks , 13" air?

advice!
 

get pro

it has retina, great cpu, mimimum 8gb ram , ports want....
