Photos "Optimize Mac Storage" and backups

i have question new photos app , haven't been able find answer far. use time machine laptop , have liked idea old iphoto library being backed there too. have new photos app, , use icloud photo library it. had choose "optimize mac storage" because photo library growing big amount of space had on hard disk decreasing. know photos backed cloud, i'd prefer have backed on time machine disk redundancy. seems obvious, wanted ask anyway, 100% sure...now use "optimize mac storage," can no longer of photos being backed time machine, right? it'd ones happen have full-res copy saved mac?

correct. whatever format of photos physically on mac backed in time machine (not in icloud storage).

if have mac set optimize , mac starts compressing files due limited available space, backed in time machine.

if home desktop machine can suggest have library ran external drive large enough hold entire library of original files. backed via time machine time machine drive. not practical if doing macbook (having have external drive connected time.
