Upgrade Internals or Buy PC?

my current laptop mbp 17 inch 2009...

processor 2.93 intel core 2 duo
4 gb of ram
nvidia geforce 9600m gt 512 mb
320gb hard drive (7200rpm)

and

cracked glass screen (not lcd) nephew caused.

planning give/get nephew new laptop -

2 options

1. upgrade current mbp internals ssd + 8 gb of ram , fix screen

estimated cost = around $400 (maybe $300 depending on how costs fix screen?)

2. buy new windows laptop

estimated cost = around $500

haven't been computer tech - don't know estimated life of laptop is...and how better newer technology if it's windows.

appreciated!
 

i think may better off newer machine, that's me though.
