where do iPhone text go when phone is off

i have att, when had sprint , used non iphone years back, travel overseas , when came states phone push through tons of texts got while gone.

since have had att, whenever go overseas or if apple store replacement phone or whatever, timespan in phone off, never of missing text, tried experiment yesterday. apple replaced 6 plus yesterday, restoring backup, sent text sisters 5s on att 6 plus, phone didn't show delivered showed "sent text message" never ever got text , sure in 6 hour span phone off missed quiet bit of text.

else have remedy this?
