Apple Pay: Auto Updates New Card Number

not sure if has been mentioned/seen before anyways.

had cancel chase credit card because of fraudulent activity. default card applepay. anyway, called chase around midnight , cancelled , said send me new 1 in mail in week or so. never update or remove card applepay.

next day, @ drugstore , use applepay, works without problem, see card cancelled. ask cashier if went through , said "yep, you're good". i'm walking out of store, notification passbook says "your chase card ready use" find weird, check passbook , last 4 digits of card have changed (at point don't know card number since haven't got in mail, don't know if right card or glitch).

home, log on chase account , see last 4 digits match. left see if pending charge go through (it did few days later). got card in mail today , last 4 digits match.

i'm not saying or bad applepay autoupdates card number. under impression each card have manually added (take picture confirm etc) maybe syncs chase app?

had experience before? if not, can shine light on why/how happens? have no problems really, curious how info obtained without me having take picture of new card.
 

doesn't surprise me. 1 of big benefits of apple pay integrates bank directly - it's not apple running credit card charge through on behalf. silly if didn't this.
