Latest AirPort Extreme AC issue with iPhone 6

bought used extreme. factory reset twice. held reset button plugged in. set , connects great @ first. it's centrally located in single story home. if far away router (stay connected wifi) or leave , come back, reconnect @ n. not ac. based on airport utility app on phone. can ac connection again if toggle wifi off/on on phone or restart either extreme or phone. normal? thanks.
 

sounds it's automatically connecting better signal. 2.4ghz has little better range 5ghz

set airport different ssid 2.4 , 5ghz bands (i.e. name, , name 5ghz) .. in airport utility under wireless options can check 5ghz network name box this.

on iphone, forgot network(s) home network. rejoin connecting 5ghz ssid only.

should keep on ac.
