Multiple desktops without additional displays...

so i'm wondering - multitasking , not having whole heap of windows on top of each other (which gets stressful at) - whether there's way use extended desktop feature single display.

use 15" macbook pro osx yosemite. great if 4 finger swipe across right or left desktop. well... guess same desktop - without windows open on original desktop displaying there.

i'm sure must exist - can't find right words google find it.

tips out there?
