data validation
alternative data validation in excel can use of pop menus described in video. add values of in menu under cell > data format > pop menu.

personally, i'd see apple make more intuitive allowing select set of values can used in pop menu.

well, i'm in required freshman engineering class , we're learning "excel." first week of class practiced basic functions such as:
- cell addressing
- common math/trig/stat fcns.
- errors
- data lookup
fast forward today, , go class feeling confident, knowing can done in excel can somehow replicated in numbers.
until professor started talk data validation...
goes excel menu bar , used d.v. options distribute cell data or (i can't remember, because teaching busy searching apple discussion forum equivalent). sit there , remain confused, , it's not i'm going ask him how do when i'm
- using numbers
- confused heck anyway
did better before got worse however. used pre-made excel workbooks create scatter plots , bar graphs. the problem had there not being secondary axis option when had 2 series different scales.
gets bad. had sheet 2 tables, data create scatter plot single point. idea show projectile's trajectory using projectile equation (from physics). professor goes options menu of excel , enables "iterative calculations." class coming close , knew screwed. frantically searched , found thread on apple forums saying "a circular reference error," , numbers can't solve problem. that's when hit me if numbers can't substitute program may have ditch it...
bottom line is, see classic "simplify program @ expense of features" complaint showing in class. it's pretty inconvenient , embarrassing apple, company market cap of $1t have such stripped out program basic functions.

have suggestions on how fix issues, if possible? recommend me buying excel?
libre office includes refs "iterative references in spreadsheets" , "validity of cell contents". might give app shot. i've never used either feature, guarantee nothing.
