Advice on choosing new iMac

hi,

i'm owner of 2009 macbook pro 13" 2,53ghz 8gb of ram , 500gb samsung evo ssd. although macbook still functions pretty well, battery still lasts 4h on normal use, it's starting feel little bit slow , outdated. got budget update it, , since don't need portable unit anymore decided imac.

main uses imac organize 50gb photo library aperture, photoshop, organize 60gb itunes library, casual games , movies, , multimedia server apple tv, ipad , iphone.

decided 21.5 inches imac more enough needs, fact didn't got updated yet keeping me going forward, that's why want ear opinions.

thinking of top of line imac upgraded core i7 processor, 16gb of ram , 1tb fusion drive. configuration intended future proof, , since keep photo , itunes library in main hard-drive i'm choosing fusion drive.

in current imac except fact the thunderbolt ports aren't thunderbolt 2. big questions are:

should go forward right , buy imac? or should wait updated? think thunderbolt ports instead of thunderbolt 2 going make big difference in future? thinking should, probably, used connect external hard-drives. think must ditch fusion drive , full ssd , use external hard drive thunderbolt libraries?

although love retina screens think it's not going regret in future.

in advance.

i think you've got configuration pretty nailed down.

said, i'd rather go 256gb ssd pure speed , reliability (i've got 3.1 i7/16/256/750m 21.5" config , haven't regretted it).

keep usb 3 external drive permanently attached imac, , that's iphoto/aperture , itunes libraries stay.
