Can not install Windows 8.1

running late 2008 mbp, upgraded hdd ssd. went install copy of vista, got message, windows 7 or newer needed. ok, went store, bought window 8.1 , bootcamp tells me windows 7 only! :mad:

how heck can 8.1 install??

late 2008 mbp
512g ssd
8g ram
yosemite prerelease 10.10.4 public beta. (did same thing on full release 10.10.3)
 

easy. can install on other pc.

warning: data before trying!

first suggest test it. reboot, insert disk, holt option key, , select windows disk boot into. if works , can browse setup, it's , should work.

need partition hd install windows on.

i'm not sure if have make partition ntfs or format. in windows posready2009 installer, format of partition doesn't matter, long it's partition; installer formats itself. don't know if 8.1 installer same is. can try out.

in os x, go in disk utility, select hd, , create new partition shrinking main 1 (drag up) , clicking + create new one. make size want, name , format doesn't matter, assuming installer reformat partition anyway.

once partition made, boot installer disk. when reach screen choose easy or custom install (or that) choose custom install or may erase data. should see partition screen. select second partition have made in disk utility. @ size of partition see if 1 created. select it, format if necessary, whatever needs done (i don't know 8.1 install much).

after install it, should have windows installed! screen may low resolution , things may not work; because need drivers. shut down windows , go os x.

, download bootcramp software. follow instructions gives there of putting on usb stick, etc.

boot windows, open usb stick, , install bootcramp software. note: i'm not sure software work, think should. if doesn't can try older version of bootcamp (here). if none work might have find individual drivers yourself... or else can't use windows fully... think bootcramp sotware should work fine.

okay, know how battery cycles , work. want know is: how many cycles battery has how old battery is how many mah macbook shipped with how many mah have now reading thread on different site macbook batteries , commenting battery info. of them commenting saying reached 120 cycles per year. 1 guy said mac 3 years old on 250 cycles (avg. 83 year). think person had 400 after 2 years. in 'system information' says age of macbook 3 months old (when arrived said 1 months old, i've had 2 months) , have 98 cycles, using many cycles? i'm asking because realised apple batteries more or less useless @ holding charge after 1000 cycles , if i'm averaging 100 every 2 months gives me 1.7 years until macbook more or less desktop... to me seems poor previous windows laptops owned lasted long , expect lot more machine on £1k. Weird behavior on external monitor
