Why does my newly charged MBP battery start at only 94% full?

i unplugged mbp @ home , got out use away power supply, having opened lid, battery (just disconnected mains 20 minutes ago) showing 94% remaining (rather 100% or 99%).

there reason why start @ lower amount?

what charge level when plugged in? battery may appear stop charging between 93 percent , 99 percent, because batteries designed avoid short discharge/charge cycles in order prolong overall life of battery. once charge level drops below range, charge when plugged in.

it's possible process running that's drained battery 100% 94% in 20 minutes. check activity monitor see processes or have been consuming energy.

link below should answer most, if not all, of battery/charging questions. if haven't done so, highly recommend take time read it.
