Got my 42mm SPS on launch day, no preorder, no queue, no wait


i've spent lot of time on past few weeks reading these forums, i've found both enjoyable , informative.

decided join member , post out of guilt, although understand why how release has unfolded may have been practical option, i'm not convinced it's been logical , sympathise lot of frustration shown other board members.

i'm not particularly hard-core apple fan, i've had iphone 2 years , have replaced nexus tablet ipad, had decided apple watch perfect me when announced in september.

made sure , ready @ 8am when pre-orders began, both apple store app , website @ hand. website useless , down while concentrated on refreshing app, came online @ 8.04. ordered (in uk) , managed order 42mm space grey sport black band , got 8.06 confirmation 4-6 week (12th-26th may) delivery window.

made peace with, deciding patient, until week ago when discovered board , got swept in excitement people talking deliveries sooner anticipated.

earlier week things looked promising, when watches may window - , june - being dispatched.

appeared - , still appear - there significant shortage of space grey sport models of both sizes. didn't had been dispatched, when were, people in london ordered @ 8.08 getting theirs when people ordered same model @ .02 still hadn't seen movement.

lost hope of getting mine time soon.

when apple quietly announced last night 1 store in entire country have limited supply weekend , number make appointments appear morning, interested.

wasn't expecting obsessed did. number came online @ 9.30 , tried right away got 'call failed' notification, if wrong number. how bad set-up was, there no call queuing system, rejection, if didn't want people know number worked. saw online @ least 2 people had got through, tried again, , again. trying , retrying whilst @ work, not getting through.

on 4 hours , 400+ attempts later (seriously, don't know mania came from), got through told me try on appointments booked weekend.

asked whether forgo try on , purchase 1 know want, told no, firmly. said come in store on monday , book appointment next week, couldn't promise there'd stock left. asked point in taking time of booking appointment in person, when make payment, told no, not system.

shop nearby, of course decided stop by, not expecting told different.

having preprepared angered speech 400 phone calls, walked in, stood table people having try on appointments 30 seconds before came on , asked if help. asked if had watch wanted in stock, said yes , took me pay. walked away watch, bemused, within 2 minutes.

odd, spoke 3 people beside me in till, 1 had walked in me, had queued since 7am , @ 11 been given appointment later in day , had flown in italy day. neither of latter 2 happy others being handed watches.

seemed strange , illogical.

didn't mean write much... short version is, i've cancelled preorder, got bumped list. , thought worth sharing agree no 1 has been lied to; we've been given delivery windows kept (if not beaten), cursing apple , making angry threats don't have sympathy.

@ same time, has not been right whole process.
