Will a clean install and restore make any performance difference?

i have 2011 i7 3.4 imac 16gb of ram. in last year or seems getting slower. don't want re-install apps haven't bothered clean os install. i've migrated every os snow leopard yosemite. if format , install yosemite fresh, restore backup after, negate benefit of fresh install?

a important question:
kind of drive have inside 2011 imac?

platter-based hard drive?

macs hdd's doing fine snow leopard, lion, or mountain lion -- can "get sluggish" when upgraded mavericks or yosemite.

reason seems processes go on in background, , fact mavericks, apple changed way memory loaded , handled.

whatever did seems put lot of "performance pressure" on platter-based hdd's, while macs ssd's boot platforms seem fine.

you've discovered, ram doesn't seem matter -- it's drive makes difference.
