Mid 2011 27" iMac Audio in and Out

i want purchase headset allow me listen music etc. , allow me listen , chat people via voip.

know imac has 2 audio ports (mid 2011 27" imac), think new macs no longer have these 2 ports, , i'm not sure ports have work in original fashion in current os x yosemite.

how should hook 1 of these headsets?

should place line in , line out headset in actual ports, or need adapter send 2 lines headset 1 audio port?

i'm little confused, receive appreciated.
