Pondering a 4,1 8x2.26 advice appreciated

hi folks,

i'm toying idea of moving new system, 2009 8gb 2.54ghz core2duo mini, , options bit on place, appreciate advice people care offer.

primary heavy lifting apps aperture, photoshop/indesign cs5, artrage, autopano giga & sketchup. first 2 dead platforms, don't tie me mac, , last 3 have linux versions. i'd prefer stay on mac, know, cost cost.

requirement - new system has drive 3 displays in hardware. here's options on mac see them:

  • mac pro 4,1 8x2.26, flashed ati r9 280x drive screens, 16gb of ram (2x8gb) & 240gb ssd - ~au$2100
    au$<1500 stock8gb (8x1?) 650gb gt120
omps hold value here - price more typical quad core, , apple never offers refurbs of desktop systems
  • entry level 27" imac - au$2439
  • 15" macbook pro dgpu - au$2999
  • entry level nmp au$3999

don't need laptop, , one, think ultralight mba better option field machine buying mbp , running closed in studio - particular task i'm looking @ right stitching panoramas 142x36mp raw files (i can potentially 21'x10'6" 300dpi panoramas) - computer can keep going without overheating & throttling down sounds idea. (a bit of gaming wouldn't hurt)

artrage , autopano giga multicore happy, sketchup uses 1 core, gpu bound, , read in previous thread, aperture 3 likes lots of cpu, rather original version being highly gpu dependent.

know 4,1 can flashed 5,1 - can run 5,1 1300mhz ram in machine that's got 1066mhz firmware / processors in anticipation of future cpu upgrade?

i'm curious how long people think 4,1 / 5,1 remain hot-roddable / os supported?

yeah, thoughts anyone? guess else i'm weighing against whether mac mini / egpu option viable turnkey thing in near future.

thanks.

i think you're coming going feel great. owner 2009 i'm partial it, however, bit dated. think you'd benefit external thunderbolt storage?

can cmp or nmp drive 3 displays, i'm not sure how many displays can other models listed, think may depend on max resolution of each (external in cases) display , number of thunderbolt buses.

also, if go cmp, you'll want drop in pci sata adapter card sata3 speed ssd.

it's impossible tell how long cmp supported. it's not native 10.10 features without 3rd party hardware things handoff , continuity. though fast enough, 64bit platform , matches lot of apple hardware.

if majority of main work flow multi-core enabled , in "time money situation" price difference of nmp may pay in short order. sounds deal heavy data images i'd go latest tech hands on.

love cmp , dig reading stories here. plan put new xeons in mine year that's because bought it. if buying mac today, i'd go nmp.
