Searching nearby locations without MapView in ViewController?

here's i'd do:
i'd use mapkit search nearby locations based on keyword, example, "souvenirs".
however, not want show locations on mapview in viewcontroller. instead, want application find results , store them.
want use 5 closest results user.
, navigate user 5 locations, allowing them "check off" locations reach them.

app go like:
open application
in background:
initialize search
store results list?
user gets directions first location , once arrive, application removes location list
user, when ready, walks next location.
when arrive location, application removes location list.
if wanted check out shops within walking distance, can , wouldn't go same shop twice.

make sense? don't want mapview because don't need see locations on map.
