Recommended update order for cleanest install?

i see lot of folks starting excited ios 8.3.

- still on 7.1.2 on iphone 5s. if/when decide go 8.3 - can share best method cleanest install of 8.3 , (hopefully) backup data on phone?

appreciate info field.

1) icloud backup , or backup pc or mac.
2) wipe data doing erase data, reset settings
3) connect device pc or mac , restore via itunes. download latest version ios. connecting itunes , doing restore keeps os booting, i've read.

* others prefer putting device in dfu mode.

p.s. don't think matters unless encounter problems. have never had problem doing ota update, never maybe i'm lucky. :)
