Linux Server on Mac Network

i have bunch of usb drives built on various linux systems , want set linux server on mac-only home network provide access these drives. know can mount these drives on mac using macfuse, i've found read performance not good. don't want via vm similar reasons.

have found sharing drives between mac , linux world not faint of heart. know of source specific configuration covers details on both mac (mavericks now) , linux (ubuntu) end of things?

it's rather trivial if use samba (windows file sharing protocols)or netatalk (apple file sharing protocols) on linux machine share macs.
