iphone 4 charging issue

my iphone 4 had been out of commision month or because screws hold gone (it stepmoms) , fell , hit ground ripping battery out. ordered 1 , put in. when push home button shows icon asking pluh in charger when goes empty battery , doesn't charge. recognizes charger doesn't charge it. i've tried cleaning connector port of dust hasn't changed it. hoping may help. thinking might have replace connector port. apprieciated.
