CPU usage when using two displays vs Clamshell mode

i've got 24" display i'm connecting mbp via mini display port, , running 2 screens. have macbook on desk , monitor elevated , run them both on @ same time. however, i'm noticing fans spinning crazy curious whether, if run laptop in clamshell mode, see reduction in presume over-use of cpu?

basically, stress machine less in clamshell opposed running dual monitors?
 

- else being equal, yes, running 1 display tax machine less running two.
