Would iPhone-Independence really matter?

there's plenty of people have no issue watch's dependence upon iphone utilize full feature set. i've seen many others make case have no interest in purchasing apple watch or don't see point long it's "iphone accessory."

excluding obvious running/jogging example, or current iphone owners expect find doing in normal week iphone more 150-300ft away , bag or pockets impractical or unavailable? can people come enough examples justify "pretty useless because relies on phone" hard stance taking?
 

i feel people looking complain about. carry phone everywhere anyway, i'm not bothered watch requires it.

however, interesting if watch independent phone , replace many of phone's functions (i.e. if make calls , forth). might see people deciding go watch , no phone @ all, that's not possible right now.
