5.1 sound from macbook not working, help!?!

hey guys!

bought kickass sound system media room @ home. bought pioneer sc-1223 reciver jamo d-500 5.1 thx speaker system. system works great apple tv, xbox , else macbook things tricky. have connected same way, hdmi cable. using macbook mid 2010 media pc.

when play full hd movie vlc sound vaguely plays speakers , plays left speaker. happens playing mp4 och mkv file has 5.1 encoded. when file has 2.1 works fine. when using quicktime, have smilar problem.

question is, how fix sound plays speakers equally , not left? have suggestions? macbook old handle 5.1 sound mabye? or need external soundcard?
 

your computer not old 5.1. mbp 2007 onwards (i'm not sure 2006's) 5.1 through optical port.

using minidisplayport hdmi adapter on machine?

i'd tell go poke around in audio midi setup computer connected receiver. interface pretty straightforward. going there i'd test each speaker individually verify computer able send signal each. if can't, perhaps adapter faulty. check sample rate well, movies encoded @ 48000hz whereas music encoded @ 44100hz.

if works in audio midi setup, i'd go play around settings on playback program of choice.

Battery Cycles

okay, know how battery cycles , work. want know is: how many cycles battery has how old battery is how many mah macbook shipped with how many mah have now reading thread on different site macbook batteries , commenting battery info. of them commenting saying reached 120 cycles per year. 1 guy said mac 3 years old on 250 cycles (avg. 83 year). think person had 400 after 2 years. in 'system information' says age of macbook 3 months old (when arrived said 1 months old, i've had 2 months) , have 98 cycles, using many cycles? i'm asking because realised apple batteries more or less useless @ holding charge after 1000 cycles , if i'm averaging 100 every 2 months gives me 1.7 years until macbook more or less desktop... to me seems poor previous windows laptops owned lasted long , expect lot more machine on £1k. (i have been told batteries in newer macbooks glued in place , replacing battery hard job , cost lots of money, mistake...

SSD Performing Poorly
