iMac2011 RAM upgrade Dual-channel advantage?

hello,

i've got imac mid-2011 i5 16gb ram. i've been upgrading has:
2*2g ram (the stock ram in dual channel mode imagine)
1*4g ram (i added it)
1*8g ram (again added it)

usage net/movies/iphoto/amatour-lightroom/ programming (c/java/python lot's of ide's etc, light gamming: civ5, dota2, etc), 1/2 linux virtual machines (virtualbox) i'd it's work intensive imac.

in talk colleagues i've been told dual channel it's noticeable on daily tasks, specially programming , heavy ide.

question:
if swap 4g dim 8g dim (like other have) it'll work on dual-channel, notice advantages? (appart 16g 20g of ram)
