Itunes runs as slow on 2011 Macbook Pro as on 2014 Macbook Pro

[solved]

slowness caused option itunes managing folders (by artist, album, etc). though i'm not changing id3 info tags affect folder structure, setting causes change take 5x longer should.

test on both 2011 , 2014 macbook pro took 2 minutes initially, un-checking option brought time down 26 seconds updating grouping field on 30 tracks.

------------------------------

2011 macbook pro itunes runs off external drive, , test on similar spec 2014 macbook pro showed same problem, speeds identical. please figure out how improve speed.

external drive wd 2tb usb 3.0 hard drive formatted exfat.

since 2011's macbook has usb 2.0, thought 2014 macbook usb 3.0 capabilities work faster.

when copy files , forward off drive on 2 machines, 2014 3x faster - showing usb 3 difference.

reflects when importing 30 songs (325mb) itunes on both machines (my itunes library on machine harddrive in both cases, , itunes set copy music folder on external harddrive in both cases). so, on 2014 machine, import operation 3x faster (2 minutes vs 6 minutes).

but, once files imported , working on both machines, the problem lies slow speeds rename id3 tags (e.g. "grouping" or "year") , , on both machines performance rename 30 files takes 2min 2secs exactly.

why 2014 machine not 3x faster in case?

apple support person said in example, type of operation, external drive behaves usb 2.0 drive, lose benefit on usb 3.0, don't understand why operation different other tests tried. suggests buy lighting or firewire drive more expensive , own several usb 3.0 drives.

insights, explanations , help!

since operation involves i/o operations small files, random performance suck if drive doesn't support uasp (and doesn't). usb 3 can in sequential performance, if it's bot-only, it's not going bring of difference in random i/o. uasp make difference.
