i suppose question pertain piece of hardware, although @ moment i'm concerned ipods. i'm looking discontinued 160gb ipod classic second-hand, , i'd last me few years. take should take device's mileage - usage , overall wear-and-tear - consideration. see people selling aged hardware claim has been lying around in drawer. leads me ask: other things being equal, age itself matter? suppose bought ipod in '09, b bought same model in '12, , c got in '14, 3 devices unboxed today, , proceed used equal intensity. holding else constant, should expect c's device last longer a's, , longer b's? imagine battery might degenerate on time if isn't used, other essential parts?

it matter battery. device has never been used in years have battery discharged long time, , battery no good. check on apple's support page how new battery costs.
