iPhone 6 iMessage won't automatically change to text

hello

have short question imessage. in settings have put on "send text" option. if send message gf, it's imessage , says "delivered". however, girlfriend said didn't have internet @ moment. think imessage should automatically convert text when or recipient don't have internet? don't have enough time double tap change text message manually.

sending imessages , forth when both on wifi works though.

missing out something?
