How do you cover up filming in horizontal/vertical mode?

hello!

me , couple of friends have school project supposed film. now, after started editing it, realise have filmed scenes our camera (an ipad) holding horizontally , holding vertically. whole movie in horizontal mode, unfortunately don't have time re-do of scenes.

i'm asking guys is: possible "cover" in way? possible change vertical view horizontal view without making bad? thinking using kind of effect pewdiepie used in flappy bird video. how changes between 3:52 , 4:25. know how done? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqz6xhlot18&spfreload=10

thanks!:)

it's not hard deduce what's going on there- same screen image, either live or static screenshot, being blurred , stretched cover background area on either side of portrait video. i'd suggest static image blur, because having same video motion in background distracting main content.
