Macbook Pro 2014 15" Statistical Computing Performance

i'm thinking buy mgxa2ll/a (base model of 15" macbook pro quad core 2.2 cpu) since there discounts. can buy new 13" same price.

using r software statistical computing in bioinformatics area phd study. model should take? there using r statistical software macbook pro 15" 2014?

has i7-4770hq cpu while 13" model has i5-5257u cpu clock speeds 2.2 , 2.7 respectively. 13" model gives better performance 15" model because of higher single core speed?

should buy computer tomorrow. advices important me.

i run r , spss on 13" rmbp without issues (16gb ram, 1tb ssd, i7). question depend on size of datasets. larger datasets use university's server sas implementation via web browser. i've run sas couple times via virtualbox on macbook, prefer server installation. hope helps.

edit. missed specific question, "does number of cores matter type of software vs. clock speed". unfortunately, don't know answer that.
