Retina iMac and work flow

hi everyone,

wife , ready retina imac our mid 2010 macbook/pro getting long in tooth. amatuer photography figured fit along our other needs; surfing, second "tv", occasional gaming.

config looking at:
i7 4.0
m295x
stock ram intention of dyi upgrade 24gb. maybe max out.
still debating 1tb fusion or 512 flash. not sure go yet.

questions come in play work flow , efficiency , whether little better. have netgear readynas 400u 2 x 2tb drives (one mirror). store our photos there. no other files. hasn't committed yet pse or lightroom access photos. tried time machine nas wonder if works.

idea tm, separate nas? have older airport express kind of upgrade going ae/tm combo.

there better work flow/arrangement our photos/files, etc should at? not afraid of other updgrades if upgrades protect our photos , other data.

thanks!!

a time capsule is nas, relabelled make people think it's "magic backup device" (a common apple naming tactic). said, typically won't support apple trying use other network-based storage tc, , despite lack of in-built modem, they're decent networking devices. 1 drive, though, , can't switch out without breaking warranty.

if check drive of nas, there should dmg files there named after systems you're attempting it. double-clicking these should mount them drives, , if dig contents should able locate list of folders named after each backup time/date that's been performed.

if decide go tc, you'll want configure primary wireless access point, taking on job current wap performing. in cases in fact only option, given speed reduction you'd take setting client of existing wlan, that's no biggy. if you're running things off old express, you'll notice improvement on local transfer speeds @ least.

time machine (the actual backup software os comes with, opposed time capsule device) won't backup network locations - example, it'll ignore photos stored on readynas. mirror setup, doesn't sound big problem.

using router @ moment?
