rMB Impressions

just went local apple store here in twin cities suburbs.

store busy, not overwhelmingly so.

there nobody looking @ these, , nobody asked me either, fine. first impressions of expected after 15 minute play. nice build quality, part nice size , weight. keyboard take getting used to, bet after few weeks wouldn't want use else. said, while key size didn't bother me, did keep missing backspace key. keys stable no light leak around them, , register more of click anything. felt hinge weak/cheap; nice not have hold base of machine open it, little flimsy. reminded of '08 unibody mbp had cracked hinge after short time. of course hinge metal now, still felt cheap.

screen real estate wasn't there. oddly enough default resolution set on display units scaled/more space option. then, real estate wasn't quite enough if used 15" machine, low res 15" mbp. screen crisp though, , brightness seemed same other machine they've released in last 5-7 years. didn't feel 12" screen; i've had laptops 12" screens in past never seemed small.

did not test 1.1 display machine lag, seemed fine on non-default scaled resolution.

space gray indeed darker space gray ipad air 1. gold whatever, if that's thing, great. couldn't decide if i'd want silver or space gray, kind of leaned towards silver. i'm sure i'll making choice in future on rmbp.

verdict?

seemed proof of concept more anything. feels gen. 1 mba repeat, less asinine pricing. remember had rev. b mba, , thing crap 4200 rpm hdd. things go better machine.

nice machine, many compromises, @ price point. use sole machine, screen real estate isn't enough, although never felt cramped. machine @ $899 or $999 more realistic sale secondary machine. think though if small screen doesn't bother , needs basic, lot happier wasted $3k on 2008 mba.

that gripe really. used 13.3" mba , 13.3" mbpr. 1.3" pretty noticeable. not wrist rest gets use me , big paws. felt hands swallowed mbr, although still thought beautiful. sure use main machine. im curious how adapt smaller screen , less wrist area. me looked footprint of 11" mba 12" screen.

if apple can put 13.3" or 14" screen in v2, talking! hell, want current mba shell retina screen.
