Lag on rMBP 2015

i got 2015 rmbp , program lags garageband, when using play/stop/rewind buttons, there 1-2 second delay when press button , registering. specs of machine 2.9ghz i5, 16gb ram, 512gb ssd. glitch in garageband? or wrong machine? help.

edit: forgot add i'm connecting external monitor... potential cause reducing performance?
