since couple years ago, local best buy has started selling macs. they're kind of slow when comes getting new models. they're still selling 2012 mac minis time being, , i've saved enough buy mac mini desktop room. begs question...
should buy new-condition 2012 mac mini, or go new 2014 mac mini? (i'm eyeing $699 model.)
there factors pointing out. have 20" apple cinema display (2004 model), apple magic mouse , older apple bluetooth keyboard. use them 2009 macbook in "desktop" mode. 2012 mini comes hdmi-to-dvi adapter, 2014 mini doesn't, , adapter coming 2012 model can make convenient without having pay more.
2012 mini models come 4 gb of ram standard, has ram upgradeable, unlike 2014 models , soldered-on ram. , if not satisfied hard drive, can replaced on 2012 model, though takes little work. idk how easy on 2014 mini, though.
2012 models have firewire 800 port, have buy 400-to-800 adapter uses (like when using apple cinema display's firewire hub), instead of splurging firewire-to-thunderbolt adapter well.
if $599 mac mini 2012 model, save hundred bucks compared buying $699 2014 model.
thoughts?
2012 connectivity legacy gear……
how life left in 2004 apple cinema display?
late last year replaced 2005 vintage monitor on way out. not more 1/3 of paid in 2005, got bigger , better…… , more energy efficient.
2014 date connectivity , functionality, , more years of support going ahead.
ram neither here nor there.
new model comes 8 gb, should more enough needs going ahead. days of exponentially increasing ram requirements os x , apps behind us. can order 16 gb ram if feel going need it.
2012 model comes 4 gb of ram, adequate basic needs (that base model mini comes with). can upgraded 8, 12, or 16 gb if desire……
