Any drawback from importing video via FW on iMac G4?

i have imac g4 (in signature) , i'm planning convert vhs tapes dvd. purchased canopus advc 110 , wondering if i'd lose quality or if use imac record video via imovie (or other app may better).

can use mbp if works easier use imac i'll that. i'd have transfer on mbp since i'm thinking editing part easier, or wrong on this?

imovie should fine - coming in via firewire, real option "import in raw dv format, or transcode compressed on import?"

imovie versions prior '08 import dv video raw dv. means takes lot of space, it's dv device sends it.

can use idvd (or toast, or other dvd writing software) burn dvd. obviously, that's when you're going transcoding dvd-standard mpeg-2. (idvd , toast both have multiple options quality vs. capacity.)
