Workout app - inaccurate distance?

i run garmin watch, today thought i'd try workout app. had phone in pocket strava running (can't see other way gps track out of apple app). set app 4 miles, whilst out decided bit , ended doing know garmin 4.5m run.

strava had 4.5m, watch app says 4.13m. they're both measured off phone's gps, i'm unsure why watch far out?

can't see way of getting data out of apple app , strava, garmin connect etc i'll stick running garmin, seems odd data far out.
 

wouldn't iphone issue?
