Skype 2.8 PPC fix!

i found on apple forums, , appears working correctly:

"perhaps had disgusting experience of skype cutting off service if running version 2.8 because it's cleaner current spammy crappy versions or because have powerpc (ppc) mac can run earlier version, or whatever reason, , have been informed ms / skype no longer work on computer. practicing best restraint here not use 4-letter words came mind when ms did , screwed us.

took lot of searching, found work-around solves problem time being. have edit .plist file skype server thinks running modern version when still running 2.8. here how it:

write geeky way worked. may able accomplish same thing using finder, show package contents, , editor textedit, ran permission problems when tried that, switched doing through unix terminal , worked fine.

1) make sure skype not running (quit if is) , run /applications/utilities/terminal. there....
2) cd /applications/skype.app/contents/ (if skype is)
3) ls (this (ls in lower case) list components there, , can confirm 1 named info.plist)
4) sudo vi info.plist (this opens info.plist in vi editor) need type admin user password.
5) /2.8 <return> (this searches , finds instance of 2.8 in file, can edit , change "acceptable" skype version)
6) type letter i. puts in insert mode , can edit file.
7) replace whatever 2.8 version have 6.15.0.334
8) type <esc> exit insert mode
9) repeat steps 5-8 until have replaced instances of 2.8 version number. (i found 3)
10) after done editing, type :wq (this saves file , quits editor
11) launch skype, , should go!

on later versions of mac os x, package contents more challenging access, can search how that, separately. main take home need edit info.plist file in package contents of skype application , change version number 2.8.0.866 (or whatever version have) 6.15.0.334 (of whatever version skype requiring). there other terminal editors, such "nano" , "pico" can use instead of "vi". please post other methods accomplish in more streamlined way if find works better you."

person said did on 10.5.8 powerpc.
