Hardening FileZilla

i installed filezilla on mbp used manage vps.

advanced support web host blocked ftp ports , app, , said use ssh via cpanel - whatever means.

said had install filezilla, , choose port 22, enter cpanel username , password, , ready sftp stuff vps.

however, when @ of settings under filezilla > settings, feel overwhelmed!!

if there security or system admin types out there, appreciate overview of filezilla settings might need changed keep me , mbp , vps secure!!

have fear of sending things passwords in plain-text, or saving session-data or uploads in temporary place others might later find?!

(*note: have been searching security guides online, not finding much.)

have @ cyberduck or transmit. they're bit easier navigate filezilla.
